Steps to Rediscover Yourself
The Vintage Nest Blog | Steps to Rediscover Yourself | Many of us are quick to point out flaws in others but slow to take an honest assessment of ourselves. Conducting an impartial evaluation of oneself is essential if we want to improve ourselves or grow in appreciation of our strengths. You need the assistance of somebody trustworthy to help you evaluate yourself. You may also learn more about yourself by taking one of the self-assessment tests that are easily available today.
Conducting a proper self-evaluation requires authentic introspection, which leads to self-knowledge. Doing this does not mean becoming a self-centered person, but rather seeing your true self from a bigger picture to be able to become a better individual or give better service to the society you are in.
Honesty to oneself is an essential ingredient to beginning the process of self-evaluation. Take considerable time reflecting on yourself– it would be good to do this in front of a mirror. In your journal, write at least 25 adjectives to fully describe yourself. You may use both positive and negative description words. Then allow yourself to see the different aspects of your physicality. This mirror exercise is just the first step in this effective method to rediscover who you are.
After observing your reflection and coming to terms with who you see there, the next step is to ponder on the things that you like and dislike. This is imperative since it will allow you to examine personal issues that may be the reason for your preferences. It can help you in avoiding a cycle of negative behavior. Remember that if you do not delve into your history, you will most likely deal with the same repeating issues as what you have faced in the past. At this step, it is also good to identify potential sources of stress and how you are learning to deal with them.
Then, evaluate next the material that you enjoy consuming– books, movies, social media sites, etc. What are the things that you dwell in? What are things that you usually cannot tolerate? Why makes you sad? Elaborate on all of your responses and do not be afraid to explore your explanations to see how they add up.
Keeping a journal is crucial in these series of exercises. For a week, continue writing in your journal everything you feel, do, or think about. Document the things that provide you with the most satisfaction without much effort. When you consistently write in your journal, you will not only find significant relief from the pressures of everyday life, but you will also be able to gain new insight about yourself in the process.
