$3 Million in 6 Months With Adsense!

TheVintageNestBlog | $3 Million in 6 Months With Adsense! | Interview with Power Players’ Markus Frind

In what will hopefully be a recurring feature on the Power Play Blog, we present the first of many Internet Success Stories. I’m crossing my fingers that they’re entertaining.

PlentyOfFish.com’s creator, Markus Frind, is an impressive businessman who has carved out his own market share in an industry previously dominated by multinational conglomerates. Similar to the biblical story of David and Goliath, except that the underdog ultimately prevails. In terms of pageviews, Markus is the most popular “person” AdSense publisher. Let’s listen in as he gives our readers some of his insights into his methods. Post your thoughts below.

Markus, how did your background in programming prepare you for a career as a webmaster?

For the past week, daily average pageviews have been around 14 million. The users who check the site to see if they have new messages account for another 80 million visitors per day. Very demanding in terms of network bandwidth!

Can you tell our readers how you manage to have adverts appear on your site that are specifically tailored to my location even if I haven’t registered?

My only tool is ip2location.com, which basically just looks up your IP address in a database and tells me where in the world you are. Next, without any sort of sorcery, I pull up a list of local users.

Do search engine results pages (SERPS) account for the bulk of your traffic, or do you see people arriving at your site from many other sources? In what ways do you use the media to promote your business?

I estimate that about 2% of my site visitors come from search engines. Similar to other sites that have over 5 million daily pageviews, the majority of my traffic is generated by referrals and returning customers.

It appears that the services available on your site are provided free of charge to those who sign up for them. Is this possible because of a distinguishing feature that sets you apart from the competition?

Using the new algorithms I’ve invented, I can make a megasite for pennies on the dollar. Several years ago, I developed an algorithm that locates a sequence of 22 prime integers thousands of times faster than the approach used in the 1990s. A professor at the time spent years and hundreds of computers trying to break the record using a combination of numerous supercomputers and normal computers. Within two weeks, I was able to accomplish the same job on a single computer.

Fascinating! Is plentyoffish.com the only site you manage, or do you also run any others?

At the present time, this is the only available website. I’ve also set up a few sites for friends to use as training grounds for learning about affiliate marketing and other forms of online promotion. Personally, I think it’s sufficient to have just one site at this time.

Have you got any advice for people who want to start an online business and make money?

If you ask me, I don’t believe what you’re doing is all that great of an idea, but if someone else does, go ahead and ignore my opinion. Develop a popular website around a topic that no one else seems to care about. Remember too that tomorrow’s gold mines could be today’s low-monetization but high-traffic websites. Anything of value on the internet can and will be sold to the highest bidder; visitors are the currency of the realm.

Excellent piece of wisdom there, Markus. Finally, I was wondering how you manage to keep such a massive online resource updated. Have you given any thought to your life outside of coding and website maintenance?

While only one hour each day is required, the task can be taxing. The other two hours are spent by me reading and keeping up with current events.
